OUR THIRD RECIPE ATLAS

REFLECTIONS, RECIPES AND RECITATIVE FROM OUR FAVOURITE SOUTHEAST ASIAN HAUNTS

Riceland features almost 100 favourite recipes and lays before you a treasure trove of Southeast Asian cuisine. It contains a couple of hundred pictures which Jan has taken of our many expeditions to that part of the world; also, for the first time in English, we have shared with you our co-written musings on travel, not to mention a few handy hints for first-timers on how to hop on that plane to a faraway destination without getting travel agents involved.

Mainland Southeast Asia and its neighbouring regions – the Riceland of the title – mean to us exactly what they meant to our great idol, Anthony Bourdain. He would often say that it was love at first sight: the area, the people, the culture. He would say it was the place where his childhood dreams of what travel should be all about became reality.

Riceland is, in fact, our third recipe atlas. It is yet another homage to all those good, hardworking people, the best chefs in the world in our opinion, and their tiny family restaurants or one-person kiosks, shacks, carts and trestle tables scattered along the streets of cities the size of dragons. Cities like Bangkok, Colombo, Jakarta, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore and Vientiane.

It is a book of love, revelry and delight. Not to mention loads of aphrodisiacs!

We hope that you will immerse yourself in it and sense the sights, sounds, flavours and aromas of Asia as if you were there in person.
